England at Bengaluru on February 1, 2017. The strike rate he owns of 134.01 is pretty impressive at this position.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in yesterday’s match, played a key role favoring India's biggest T20I victory to date. The former India captain has immensely contributed in an all-rounder form to help the hosts hold a crushing 93-run victory over the Sri Lankans in the 1st T20I match at Cuttack's Barabati Stadium.
Not only did this former captain cum wicketkeeper-batsman gave the finishing touches but also held unbeaten at 39-run knock. He also contributed with his four behind the stumps dismissals, taking his count to 74.
Along with this, this 36-year-old veteran held up three more records during the series opener play against Thisara Perera's men.
Dhoni’s (39 not out + 4 dismissals) has placed him as the first Indian wicketkeeper who posted 35 or more runs and provided four dismissals during the same T20I match, sharing shoulders with South Africa's Quinton de Kock (twice) and Pakistan's Kamran Akmal.
Dhoni has also become the first wicket-keeper to show four dismissals in T20Is involving the Indian and Sri Lankan teams.
Dhoni with 201 dismissals in 272 matches has made him the second wicketkeeper after Kamran Akmal with 207 in 211 matches, who have completed 200 dismissals or more during any of the T20 cricket.
Praising and applauding Dhoni, Captain Rohit Sharma said,
"MSD (Dhoni), he's just class. No. 4 really paid off. He's played so many games for us, won so many games for us and moving forward, we feel making him bat at No.
4 is ideal. For a long period of time, MS has been finishing games off, but we want him to bat freely now, without that pressure. We were not sure what the ideal score would be, with dew and the wicket playing weirdly. So I thought 180 was a great effort.”
