Glenn Maxwell’s big show wasn’t enough to forbid the top Sixers defeating the Stars by five wickets
NIC Maddinson, the younger, left-handed version of Glenn Maxwell came up as
an explosive hero helping the Sixers defeat the Big Show’s Stars.
Nic Maddinson, has been given the title of the “The Bigger
Show”, who produced a CBTF highly stimulated knock towards inspiring the Sydney
Sixers move through a five-wicket win over the Melbourne Stars.
Glenn Maxwell, who went unlucky on not playing in Australia’s
one-dayer at the same venue on Sunday night and should had also been a part of
the final Ashes, during the month beginning — gave a roaring 84 runs launch off
47 balls, while battling with conjunctivitis and a side strain.
By the time Maxwell had smashed seven boundaries and four
sixes, the Stars had already set the Sixers to a score of 190 runs for victory
in their final Big Bash game.
Maddinson smashed James Faulkner for six straight boundaries
in just a single over moving from 15 to 39. Faulkner couldn’t do anything
except hanging his head in despair. Maddinson’s half-century came off just 22
balls and a ninth boundary.
By the time he departed for 61 off 26 balls —
hawk-eye had John Hastings’ lbw by pitching the ball towards the outside leg, the
Sixers only needed 75 runs off 62 balls.
When told that he was now The Bigger Show, Maddinson simply
laughed and said, “Not quite. Maybe if I was not out in the end and got us
home, but it was good to get the win.
That’s as impressive a game I’ve been
involved in with the Sixers. It was a good way to end the season that’s been a
little disappointing.”
Talking about Faulkner’s carve-up, he further added, “I
wasn’t thinking six boundaries, I was watching the next ball and thinking I had
to hit it for four — that was my plan with every ball in that power play. I’m
good friends with Jimmy, so I’ll remind him of that later.’’
The Sixers reached the score with still 15 balls to spare. This
was their fourth straight victory. Joe Denly, the Englishman with a little lesser
profile than Pommy Sixers’ Sam Billings and Jason Roy, arrived in some serious
form and kept the run chase on finishing with an unbeaten 72 off 45.
